How Seren began
Seren grew out of an experience that is often hard to name: being surrounded by people, yet having few relationships in which you feel comfortable asking for help.
Our founder encountered this when moving from clinical practice into academic research. There were colleagues and professional networks, but finding everyday support could still be difficult. It raised a question about what women need alongside formal opportunities: relationships that allow them to be uncertain, learn from one another and develop friendships beyond their immediate teams.
That question became the starting point for Seren.
As the idea developed, its purpose widened. A community built around women’s lives needed to welcome more than professional ambitions. It needed space for books, interests, family, changing circumstances and time spent together without an agenda. It also needed to recognise women whose work happens in the home, whose contributions are unpaid or whose next step is still taking shape.
Seren brings these things together through friendship, shared interests, practical support and community giving. We welcome women across healthcare, social care, education, research, science, technology and the wider community. Different experiences give us more to learn from each other.

Why Seren exists
You can work in a team and still feel alone
Friendship and support can be difficult to find in lives already full of responsibilities. Even when surrounded by colleagues or connected through professional networks, women can struggle to find relationships where they feel comfortable asking for help, sharing an interest or talking openly about what comes next.
We bring women together through friendship, shared interests, practical support and community giving. Whether building a career, managing a home, studying, caring for others or changing direction, women deserve opportunities to connect, learn from one another and contribute in ways that fit their lives.
